What is IUI?

  • IUI is a Medical Procedure that helps to treat Infertility.
  • In this procedure, specially prepared semen is directly placed inside uterus to promote fertilization.
  • It has success rate of 13 to 15%.

Recommended in case of:

Female-  

  • Unexplained Infertility
  • Mild endometriosis
  • Mild to moderate, anovulatory dysfunction
  • Cervical factor,Mild Tubal factor, pelvic adhesion

Male-   

  • Mild Male Infertility
  • >10mill/ml count
  • >10% Motility
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Donor sperms

IUI PROCEDURE

  • You may visit your Fertility doctor and do blood test, USG, husband’s semen examination and tubal testing.
  • Treatment starts on 2nd-3rd day of menses, medication for ovulation induction will be prescribed either with tablets like Clomiphene citrate/ Letrozoleor with combination of Gonadotropin injection. you will be called for visit after a week.
  • Follicular study will be done. hormone injection will be given if required.
  • Follow up after 3 to 4 days.
  • When Follicle reaches to mature size trigger Will Be Given.
  • Semen Sample from Partner Will Be Collected on The Day ofthe Procedure Or freezed sample can be used.
  • Sperm Will Be Washed and Prepared.
  • IUI Does Not Require Anesthesia. It Is Quick Procedure andNot Painful.
  • You will be made to lie down. your doctor will place a speculum to open the vagina.
  • Then the sperm will be placed gently in to uterus by using a long thin catheter.
  • You will be advised to rest for 15 min.
  • You might experience slight discomfort or mild cramping.
  • No need to take bed rest you can do your routine work.
  • After 15 days’ pregnancy test will be done.
  • You will be given medication for luteal phase support.

ADVANTAGES OF IUI

  • Less expensive
  • Less invasive
  • Higher success rate compared to natural conception
  • No hospitalization is required
  • Painless and short procedure

DISADVANTAGES OF IUI

  • Can not cover all fertility issues like bilateral tubal block
  • Lower success rate compared to IVF
  • Multiple pregnancies lead to high risk pregnancy
  • Not recommended in very low AMH and Very low sperm count
